My Mother
Callie Reese
From the lipstick kisses on my cheeks
And the fresh glasses of water
Just before I go to sleep
From the little notes in my paper bag lunches
And through all my high school crushes
You have been there through it all
Not just as my mother
But also as my friend
The person who understands
The pain that I’m in
But always assures me that it will end
I know that my growing up has been hard on you
Trust me it’s been hard
“On me too”
But you’re my mother
And I know
You’ll always be there to pull me through
